Bring on the 5Ks


This year, I’m dedicating all my running efforts towards my fav of distances: the 5K. I ran 4 marathons over the past 2 years (loved them), but now, I’m really enjoying the lower mileage/higher speed intensity workouts. Especially now that I’ve got a great coach to push me (more on that in a different post!).

I’ve registered for 2 5Ks in the next two months, and I’m looking for at least two more in April and May. My first 5K is in a week from today, and I’m ready to RACE. Bring it on!
Next week’s goal? Sub 22. My goal (one of my 26 before 26’s) by the end of the spring? Sub 21. My ongoing goal for 2012? Break my college track 5K PR of 19:30.

I’m ready for the challenge. I’ve been putting in the effort on the track, with lifting, during tempo and longer runs on the weekend. And with many more months of training ahead of me, I don’t see why I can’t give that 19:30 a run for its money. I like goals, they keep me motivated and energized.

I gotta take off for a run this chilly morning but I wanted to show my family back home how much snow we’ve gotten over the past 2 days. Over 12 inches! I love it!

    Those are great goals Erin. With your dedication and talent you will absolutely get there! My biggest running goal for the year is to finally run a full.

    Good for you for taking a marathon break and focusing on 5ks. And going for sub 19:30–awesome! I hope your first one kicks it off in speedy fashion for you!

    5k’s are SUCH a different challenge than marathons. Have fun with the training and kick some sub-22 ass this weekend. I have every confidence that you’ll do more than go just sub 22 :)

    I hope in the near future to focus on 5Ks and 10Ks…maybe next year? I think people get wrapped up in long distance and focusing on speed is an awesome goal.
    p.s. I’m going skiing with Lauren on Saturday so can’t make it to the 5k, but we’re doing a long run on Sunday if you want to join!
