Gettin’ back on the saddle

on

With the gorgeous, warm weather we’ve been having, I finally made it out for my first road ride of the season this morning. Gotta give props to my tri buddy for encouraging me to get back on the bike after months of hesitation.
I was nervous that I’d fall, or forget how to shift gears, or that my rump would be in pain the whole time, or that my tri buddy would be annoyed with my slower pace. But ya know what? None of my reservations affected my ride. And who cares if you’re the slower cycler? It’ll only make you stronger. All that matters is getting out there. No more excuses.

It felt like my last ride was just yesterday (and not all the way back in June).

And we had the most gorgeous weather. The Flatirons were radient (sorry, no pictures while riding. I haven’t, nor expect to gain, those skills). My legs were pumpin’, my breathing was strained at times, but I felt fit and content and hard working. I’m slow on the uphills, but I love to push myself and I had a blast all the while.

19 miles (1:15). 15.2 mph average pace.

For not riding in 8+ months, I’m happy with that! I’ll get closer to 20 mph, just you wait! I can do it. I can do it.

There’s probably a reason why the expression “it’s like riding a bike” exists. Your body just remembers and knows what to do. And it felt comfortable and fun to be riding again. I don’t know why I was so scared and hesitant to get back on the bike, but I’m glad I did.

And I can’t wait to go for another ride again very, very soon :)

What’s something you’ve been hesitant to try (or get back into)? Don’t be scared anymore, go do it! You won’t regret it!

Running fast. It’s been about, well, 8 months. Yesterday I did my first progressive run on the treadmill since I’ve been up here. Great minds think alike?

How’s a progressive run work? Keep picking up the pace every mile… until what? You can’t go any faster?

The weather has been amazing for riding – Chris had been doing a lot of mountain biking and a few days ago I headed out with him for an 11 mile ride. Not going to lie – my tush would have welcomed a sit on frozen peas the next day, but otherwise it was a lot of fun!

Good for you! I don’t even own a bike, LOL
