My favorite guac ever and a progression run

After work yesterday, I went to a grad student happy hour/trivia night, and it was such a blast. The trivia ranged from science, to music, to movie myths.

A sure fire way to encourage attendance with us grad students is to offer free food or beer. They had pita chips/carrots/cucumbers and the world’s best guacamole. I’m not even kidding. It was fresh, with chunks of soft, creamy avocado and fresh diced onions and not too much tomatoe. Just perfection.

After trivia (we came in 5th overall, out of 20ish teams!), Weez had an indoor soccer game, so I went to the rec center to hit the treadmill for a few extra miles.

This was my view for 5.5 miles:

I knew I’d get bored if I didn’t spice it up, so I did a ‘progression’ type of run. I started out at a 9min pace, and increased the speed 0:15 sec/mile every 5 minutes until Weez called to say his game was done (they won 6-1, btw!)(Weez is their all-star goalie). I made it to 7:15 pace before it was time to go.

This morning’s run was one of those days where I just couldn’t turn over my legs. So I enjoyed a nice, slow 45 minute trail run. It felt good to get the fresh air and shake out the muscles.

I had to make sure to burn a few calories this morning, because tonight is a big night. A big night.

The Friday before Thanksgiving every year – for the past 4 years – marks the annual “Friendsgiving” pot-luck Thanksgiving feast amongst my grad school friends.

1st annual FriendsGiving, 2008

I’m in charge of the mashed potatoes (per usual)(they’re my fave), and my friend who’s hosting, is making not one, but TWO turkeys. That takes skills. Nomnomnom.

Happy Friday, friends!

Guac or salsa?
Do you have a staple dish you’re known for making on Thanksgiving?

I prefer salsa in my guac! ;) I live in Canada so we had Thanksgiving last month. I always have turkey (obviously), ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, parsnips, roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts, gravy, and cranberry sauce. Delicious!

I’ve just grown taste buds for guac, so am now a new fan :) Late bloomer, I know!

  3. nice progression run! also, JEALOUS of your treadmill! the ones at our new gym all have super distracting, blocky old television screens on them. i do love guac but don’t trust myself with a bowl of it! looking forward to your friendsgiving post! those seem to be coming more & more popular, which i think is awesome! would love to attend one or host one some day!
