Treadmill Tempo and a Secret Ingredient

Woke up to a nice dusting of snow on the ground this morning. And it was 63*F in our apartment because we didn’t turn on the heat last night. I kinda like that though. It’s so nice sleeping when the room is a little cold, and you can burrow under the covers.

Mmmm, I could really use a nap right now.

I wanted to zip out a few quick miles this morning, so I enjoyed them right here:
I’ve been really enjoying the treadmill for quick speed workouts. I’m a trail runner through and through, but it’s just super easy to hop on the treadmill and gradually increase the pace to create a mindless but effective tempo workout.

Started at 9 min pace, then increased 0:15 pace every 5 minutes; stopped when I hit 7:45 pace. A simple 3.5 miles. Done and done!

Last night, I received these babies in the mail from my awesome Aunt D:

Two huge blocks of almond bark, used to make these little drops of heaven:

Years ago, my Aunt D sent me home with a huge batch of these puppies during the holiday season. I immediately became obsessed, asked her for the recipe, and have been making them for friends (and myself) ever since. It’s turned into a little aunt/niece special tradition.

The recipe is simple as can be, but oh so amazing, and you gotta, gotta, use almond bark. It’s the secret ingredient. I’ve searched high and low at my local grocery stores but haven’t been able to find any bark! So my aunt sent me two huge blocks to keep my ingredient stach alive.

I can’t wait to make 200 gazzilion peanut clusters this holiday season :)

Do you prefer sleeping warm, or cold?
Tell me about your last workout!

  1. Wait, I’m so confused….does your blog always have that snow falling across the screen and I just missed it? Or is that just because it snowed today?!

Haha, the ‘snow’ appears just in the month of December!

  2. I love being burrowed under my covers and I hate being cold! My last workout was a quick 1.75 miler on the treadmill.

It always has to be cold when I go to sleep!

63 degs is warm in our house! I’m too cheap to turn the heat up more. I agree-love the trails, but banging outs some fast consistant miles on the treadmill when it’s cold out is nice too.
